Uptown Soul Lounge

w/ Jessica Betts, Amalia Watty, & Gabriel Clarke

FRIDAY, APRIL 28

8PM

@ Gin Fizz Harlem308 Malcolm X Blvd, New York, NY 10027

NYC’s most exciting monthly live music series is heating up with the weather, as Uptown Soul Lounge returns to Harlem’s “best-kept secret” for its second show of the spring season on Friday, April 28! This month, we welcome back guest host and Uptown Soul Lounge alumnus Carla G, along with special live performances by Rock & Soul goddess from Chicago Jessica Betts, the Caribbean-born and self-proclaimed “soul sister” of NYC Amalia Watty, and the innovative trap/jazz soul queen from Washington DC Gabriel Clarke.

Happening the last Friday of every month, Uptown Soul Lounge is, at once, the revival of Harlem’s old jazz/soul ethos, and the birth of a new musical frontier. The series has made its name for bridging the gap between generations, blurring lines in the soul spectrum, and forging Harlem’s new hotbed for the world’s best emerging talent in soul music.

Admission is only $5 with an RSVP!

MORE ABOUT AMALIA WATTY:

Amalia Watty has been compared to a variety of chart-topping vocalists: Duffy, Corinne Bailey Rae, Amy Winehouse and even the legendary Billie Holiday. But one thing is clear: she’s become one of the fastest-rising new voices coming out of the Caribbean. Born and raised in Rey Hill, Anguilla, and now based in New York City, this young songstress has a voice as unforgettable as your first island sunset. Amalia’s distinctive tone and spellbinding style eventually captured the attention of industry vets such as producer/ songwriter Jamie Houston (Steven Tyler, Carlos Santana, Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Macy Grey, Kid Rock), and Josh Sarubin (former A&R VP Columbia, Arista, Island Def Jam).  Amalia and Jamie soon began to co-write and record leading to the next step in her journey. “I’ve been lucky enough to have to the opportunity to write and learn from some of the best songwriters around, so now I’m excited for people to get a chance to hear it.”
